Prof Paul Flather – The Optimist’s Guide to Brexit

Prof Paul Flather
Secretary General of the Europaeum

Prof Paul Flather delivers a T-Talk on Brexit at Rhodes House. He is the Secretary General of The Europaeum, an initiative which connects ten universities including the University of Oxford across Europe. With a talk titled ‘The Optimists Guide to Brexit’, Prof Flather walks the audience through Britain’s long and interlinked history with the rest of Europe, going back through the ages to include Roman Britain, the revolutionary developments of 1066, as well as the changes brought about by various monarchs such as Henry VIII and William of Orange. He notes that Britain’s fate has always been closely intertwined with that of Europe, and this only looks set to continue in the future, regardless of how hard or soft Brexit is, or indeed whether it happens at all.
